Changing the Look of Composters, Cauldrons, Furnaces, and Other Interactive Blocks

Several decorative blocks change their appearance when you right-click them. You can set the scene you want without fuel, items, or liquids.

Right-Click Effects

  • Composter: Each right-click moves to the next of the nine compost fill levels. Keep clicking until you reach the level you want.
  • Smoker and Blast Furnace: Right-click to turn the burning fire texture on or off. No fuel is needed.
  • Cauldron: Right-click to cycle through empty, water, lava, and powder snow.
  • Brewing Stand: Right-click to show between zero and three potion bottles on the stand.
  • Lectern: Right-click to open or close the book. No reading screen appears.
  • Bell: Right-click it or shoot it with an arrow to ring it.

Scene Ideas

1. Farm: Line up composters at different fill levels so the farm looks well used.

2. Blacksmith: Light the blast furnaces and set one cauldron to lava for a glowing forge corner.

3. Winter cabin: Set a cauldron to powder snow by the door.

4. Library or study: Leave some lecterns open and some closed so the room looks lived in.

5. Apothecary: Mix brewing stands holding one, two, and three bottles along a shelf.

Good to Know

These are visual states only. A lit decorative furnace does not smelt anything, and a full decorative cauldron or composter holds nothing. If you need the real function, convert the block back to vanilla in a crafting grid.
