How to Trigger Elemental Reactions Against Mobs
Each elemental sword deals its own damage type. The real power comes from combining elements on a single target, which triggers a combat reaction. Here is how to practice it safely and then use it in real fights.
Practicing reactions
1. Hold one elemental sword in one hotbar slot and a sword of a different element in the slot beside it.
2. Find a single hostile mob. For your first tests, do this at night near your base or in a cave you have lit up.
3. Hit the mob with the first sword to apply that element.
4. Switch straight to the second sword and hit the same mob again. Watch for a change in the damage or the effects.
5. Repeat with other pairs, such as Pyro with Hydro, Electro with Cryo, or Dendro with Geo. Note which pairs produce the strongest results.
The reaction you get depends on which elements you combine. Test the pairs yourself rather than assuming they all behave the same way.
Using reactions in real fights
- Open with your setup element. Apply the first element before the mob reaches you, then swap and finish with the second.
- Keep switching quick. Put your favourite pair in adjacent slots so you do not lose the element window while scrolling.
- Watch status effects. Some swords add effects. For example, Pyro slashes can apply custom status effects, and Cryo can freeze a target.
- Thin out groups first. Reactions are easiest to land on one target at a time, so pull mobs apart before you start combining.
