How to Turn Down or Silence Specific Sounds from Dynamic Surroundings

Dynamic Surroundings Rebirth adds many new sounds: biome soundscapes, footsteps, heartbeats, crafting clicks, hotbar switching and more. If one of them gets on your nerves, you can turn it down without losing the rest.

Adjust a Sound You Just Heard

The quick volume menu works on recently played sounds, so use it right after the sound happens.

1.

2. Hold Ctrl + ` (the backtick key, usually above Tab).

3. The quick sound volume menu opens and lists the sounds that played recently.

4. Find the sound you want to change and lower its volume. You can also raise sounds you want to hear more clearly.

5. Release the keys and keep playing. You don't need to restart.

If the sound you want isn't listed, go back into the world, trigger it again (for example, switch hotbar slots), and reopen the menu.

Change Whole Sound Categories

To change footsteps or ambience as a group, use the standard menu instead:

1. Press Esc and open Options → Music & Sounds.

2. Find the separate Footstep and Biome sliders.

3. Lower the Footstep slider if walking, jumping and landing sounds are too loud.

4. Lower the Biome slider if the forest, jungle, ocean or cave ambience is too strong.

The two sliders are independent. You can keep full biome atmosphere and quiet your footsteps, or the other way around.
