Dynamic Surroundings Rebirth Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

Do I need to install Dynamic Surroundings Rebirth on the server too?
No, it runs entirely on the client. You can join multiplayer servers with it installed, and the server needs no extra files.
How do I turn down one annoying sound without muting everything?
Hold Ctrl + ` (backtick) to open the quick volume menu. It lists recently played sounds, so you can lower or silence just the one that is bothering you.
Footsteps are too loud. Where is the setting?
Open the standard Sound Options menu. Footstep and Biome sounds each have their own slider, so you can lower footsteps without affecting the ambient soundscapes.
Why isn't the compass or clock info showing on my screen?
The HUD overlay only appears while a compass or clock is in your main hand or off-hand. Keeping one in the off-hand lets you see the readout while you use other items.
How do I see how far away an explorer map's target is?
Hold the explorer map. The mod displays the exact horizontal distance to the marked location, so you know how much ground is left to cover.
I never see the northern lights. What am I doing wrong?
The aurora only appears over cold biomes around midnight. Travel to a cold biome and look at the night sky near the middle of the night to catch the colored curtains.
Why do sounds suddenly get muffled?
Audio is deliberately muffled when you are swimming underwater or hearing something through thick solid walls. Surface or open a path, and sounds return to normal.
I hear a heartbeat. Is something wrong?
A heartbeat plays when your health is low, so it is a cue to heal or retreat. Faint heartbeats, low drones and intermittent Sculk clicks also play in the Deep Dark as warning ambience, so pay attention to where you are.
Where do footprints show up?
You leave visible footprints when walking through snow, sand and mud. They don't appear on other surfaces.
What triggers sandstorms and the dust rain in the Nether?
Sandstorms replace normal rain in deserts during bad weather. The Nether gets its own dust rain effect, and distant thunder rumbles during stormy weather elsewhere.
