Question 1

Do I need Carpet mod installed to use Discarpet?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Carpet Discarpet is an extension for Carpet and requires the base Carpet mod to be installed first. Without Carpet, the mod will not function.

Question 2

How do I connect my Discord bot to my Minecraft server?

Accepted Answer

You need to create a Discord bot token through the Discord Developer Portal, then use Scarpet functions provided by Discarpet to authenticate and connect your bot to your server. The exact setup is covered in the Set Up a Discord Bot to Read Minecraft Chat guide.

Question 3

Can I make Discord commands that change things in my Minecraft world?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Discarpet exposes Discord bot API functions as Scarpet functions, allowing you to write scripts that listen for Discord commands and execute corresponding actions in your world. See the Create a Discord Command That Affects Your Minecraft World guide for examples.

Question 4

What happens if my bot token gets leaked or exposed?

Accepted Answer

Anyone with your bot token can control your bot and potentially access your server. Regenerate your token immediately in the Discord Developer Portal and update your Scarpet scripts with the new token.

Question 5

Can Discarpet log player deaths and other events to Discord?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can write Scarpet scripts that detect Minecraft events and send them to Discord channels. The Monitor Server Statistics and Post Them to Discord guide demonstrates how to capture and relay server activity.

Question 6

Is there a performance impact from running Discord bot scripts?

Accepted Answer

Discarpet scripts run within Carpet's tick system, so heavy or poorly optimized scripts can impact server performance. Keep your Discord interaction logic efficient and avoid unnecessary API calls every tick.

Question 7

Can I use Discarpet in single-player worlds?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Discarpet works in single-player, though the use cases are more limited since you're the only player. You can still use it to log events or receive notifications about your world.

Question 8

What Scarpet knowledge do I need to use this mod?

Accepted Answer

You should be comfortable writing basic Scarpet scripts and understand Carpet's function syntax. Discarpet adds Discord-specific functions on top of Scarpet, so familiarity with Carpet is essential.

Question 9

Can multiple Discord bots interact with the same Minecraft server?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can run multiple Scarpet scripts that each manage different Discord bots, or have one bot handle multiple functions. Just ensure each bot has its own unique token.

Question 10

What should I do if my Discord bot stops responding to Minecraft events?

Accepted Answer

Check that your bot token is still valid, verify your Scarpet script is running without errors, and confirm the bot has the necessary Discord permissions for the channels it's trying to access. Review your server logs for any Scarpet error messages.
