Getting Dead Logs and Planks

Dead Log and Dead Wood generate in dry, dead biomes. Break Dead Log blocks to collect them, then place a Dead Log in a crafting grid to convert it into Dead Planks. Four Dead Planks in a square craft a crafting table if you need one on site. From Dead Planks you can craft the full Dead building set.

Crafting the Dead Block Family

Use Dead Planks to make Dead Stairs, Dead Slab, Dead Fence, Dead Fence Gate, Dead Door, Dead Trapdoor, Dead Pressure Plate, and Dead Button. Dead Sign and Dead Hanging Sign are also craftable from Dead Planks. Dead Shelf is made from Dead Planks as well. All of these follow the same shaped recipes as their vanilla wood counterparts, so arrange Dead Planks in the standard pattern for each piece.

Building Tips

Dead Planks have a pale, weathered look that pairs well with Dead Leaves and Dead Sapling for a barren build. Use Dead Slab and Dead Stairs to soften rooflines, and Dead Trapdoor as a shutter or floor detail. Dead Fence works for pens and railings. Because every piece comes from the same Dead Planks, you only need a steady supply of Dead Log to keep a whole build supplied. Bring an axe and clear a stand of Dead Log before you start, then convert logs to planks at your build site.
