Set Up an Optimal Enchanting Room

Plan Your Bookshelf Layout

Enchantment power stacks based on proximity to your enchanting table. Each bookshelf within 15 blocks horizontally, 15 blocks vertically, and 1 block away from the table contributes its power value. Arrange bookshelves in a 1-block perimeter around your enchanting table for maximum effect.

Choose Your Bookshelf Tier

Decide based on your goal:

  • Early game: Use Iron, Copper, or Amethyst Bookshelves for modest power boosts
  • Mid game: Golden, Steel, or Bronze Bookshelves offer solid enchantment levels
  • Late game: Diamond, Emerald, Obsidian, or Netherite Bookshelves unlock the highest-level enchantments
  • End-game: Enderite Bookshelf provides maximum enchantment power

Build and Test

Place 15 bookshelves around your enchanting table in a hollow square or rectangular pattern. Leave the front open for access. Check your enchanting table—you should see higher-level enchantments appear in the interface. If you want even more power, stack multiple layers vertically (keeping the 1-block distance rule) or add more bookshelves within range.

Mix different tiers if you're building aesthetically—the power values stack regardless of bookshelf type.
