Determine Block Break Speed with Your Current Tool

Accessing Tool and Block Data

Your script can query information about the tool currently in your hand and any block you target. The scripting API provides access to tool properties like material type, enchantments, and mining speed modifiers.

Calculating Break Speed

The mod allows you to:

  • Identify the block's hardness value
  • Read your tool's mining speed stat
  • Account for enchantments like Efficiency
  • Factor in whether the tool is appropriate for the block type

Combine these values using the game's break speed formula to predict exactly how long it will take to mine a block with your current setup.

Practical Applications

Use this in a display script to show break time before you commit to mining. This is especially useful for determining if your current pickaxe is efficient enough for obsidian, ancient debris, or other hard blocks. You can even create decision logic: "if break speed is below threshold, switch tools automatically."
