How to Make Item Frames Invisible and Still Use Them

Turning a Frame Invisible

Invisible item frames let you display an item as if it were floating on the wall, with no wooden frame around it.

1. Place your item frame on the wall as normal and put the item inside.

2. Hold Amethyst Shards in your hand.

3. Right-click the item frame with the shards. The frame itself disappears, leaving only your displayed item.

On servers where the config has been changed, the trigger item may be Glass Panes instead of Amethyst Shards. If shards do nothing, try a glass pane.

Interacting With an Invisible Frame

Once the frame is invisible, a normal right-click would rotate or remove the item, which is usually not what you want. Instead:

• Sneak (shift) + right-click the frame to interact with it normally — this lets you rotate the item, swap it, or take it out.
• A plain right-click is reserved so you do not accidentally disturb your display.

To make the frame visible again, sneak and right-click it while holding the same trigger item (Amethyst Shards or Glass Panes, depending on config).

This pairs well with the sign passthrough feature: you can hide the frame, label it with a sign, and still open any container behind that sign.
