How to Extract Enchantments from an Item onto a Book
Placing the Items
Open the Improved Grindstone interface. Put your enchanted tool, weapon, or armor into the top slot. Place a plain, unenchanted book into the bottom slot. The grindstone will preview the enchantments that are about to be moved and show the experience cost (if any) required to complete the transfer.
Completing the Transfer
Once both slots are filled, the output slot will show an enchanted book containing all the enchantments that were on the item. Take the book out to finish the operation. The original item is returned to you in an unenchanted state — it keeps its durability and any prior anvil work, but loses every enchantment that was moved. If the item had multiple enchantments, all of them are copied onto the single book at once, so you do not need to repeat the process per enchantment.
Things to Watch For
- Curses are treated like normal enchantments and will transfer too, so check the preview before confirming.
- If your server or config uses a specific XP cost mode, make sure you have enough levels before pulling the book out.
- The unenchanted item can be re-enchanted later, so this is a safe way to strip gear you want to keep using.
