How to Customize Which Illagers Wear Armor Using a Datapack

Why Use a Datapack

Config options cover broad toggles, but if you want fine control — say, only evokers wear diamond armor while pillagers stay bare — you need a datapack. The mod reads equipment data from override files, so you can replace the default behavior without touching the mod itself.

Setting Up the Datapack

1. In your world's datapacks folder, create a new folder for your pack.

2. Inside it, create a pack.mcmeta file with a valid pack format for your game version.

3. Create the folder path the mod expects for its equipment overrides (mirror the mod's internal data path, typically under data/<modid>/...).

4. Copy the mod's default equipment JSON files into your datapack at the same relative path so your versions override them.

5. Edit each JSON to define the armor and weapon entries you want for that Illager type. Remove entries to prevent armor, or add entries to force specific gear.

6. Save, then run /reload in-game.

Testing

Summon the Illager with /summon and inspect its equipment. If nothing changed, confirm your folder path matches the mod's namespace exactly and that your pack.mcmeta pack format matches your Minecraft version.
