Getting Started with Gender and Breeding

Understanding Mob Genders

When animals and villagers spawn in your world, they're automatically assigned a gender based on configurable ratio chances. This gender determines their role in breeding and resource gathering.

Using the Scanner

Hold the scanner item to view gender icons floating above nearby mobs. Look directly at an animal or villager to see detailed gender information on your HUD screen.

Breeding Mechanics

Only opposite-gender pairs can breed together. Sterile mobs—calculated from your male-to-female ratio settings—cannot produce offspring regardless of pairing. Some genders are blocked from specific interactions, like milking male cows.

Setup and Compatibility

Run /bub server scan to register animal mobs in your world, including modded creatures. Use /bub server integration to reload custom compatibility files from your config folder. Villager genders persist even after curing zombie villagers.
