Generate Power with Advanced Reactor Fuels
Understanding Reactor Fuel Types
IC2 Additions introduces new reactor fuels—Neptunium,
Thorium, and Californium—that provide alternatives to standard uranium. Each fuel type has different energy output, heat generation, and burn duration. Research which fuel best matches your reactor design and cooling capacity.
Setting Up Your Reactor
Place your reactor structure and insert fuel rods containing your chosen fuel type into the reactor chamber. Surround the reactor with appropriate cooling (water, ice, or cooling cells) to prevent overheating and meltdown. More advanced fuels generate higher temperatures and require better cooling infrastructure.
Monitor your reactor's heat level through its GUI. If heat rises too quickly, add more cooling or reduce fuel rod count. Connect the reactor's output to your energy storage system using HV cables or better.
Fuel Efficiency
Different fuels burn at different rates. Experiment with fuel combinations and cooling setups to find the balance between power output and fuel consumption for your base's needs. Higher-tier fuels typically offer better energy-to-fuel ratios but demand more sophisticated reactor designs.
