How to Recruit and Train Your First Army

Creating Soldiers

Before you can command an army, you need soldiers. Craft the appropriate soldier spawning items or recruitment structures using the mod's crafting recipes. Different unit types (archers, cavalry, infantry) are created through different recipes, so check your crafting guide for the specific materials needed.

Organizing Your Units

Once spawned, soldiers won't automatically follow you. Use the command wheel or command staff to select and group your units. The command wheel is accessed by default through a keybind and lets you quickly assign orders. Alternatively, the command staff is a craftable item that provides direct control.

For larger armies, use RTS mode to manage multiple groups at once. This overhead view lets you see all your soldiers and assign formations before engaging enemies. Start with small groups of 5-10 soldiers to learn the controls, then expand as you become comfortable.

Setting Formations

In RTS mode, you can arrange soldiers into formations before battle. Tight formations are good for defense, while spread formations work better for ranged units like archers. Experiment with different arrangements to find what works against various enemy types.
