How to Handle Portals Surrounded by Spreading Netherrack

Recognizing the Spread

Some ruined portals in this mod generate with netherrack spreading outward from the frame, as if the portal's corruption is bleeding into the surrounding terrain. This changes the local landscape, so the area around the portal looks different from the biome it sits in.

Practical Tips

  • Do not assume the ground is safe just because it looks like ordinary netherrack. The spread can cover gaps, lava, or drops. Test the floor with a block placement before walking forward.
  • If you want to clean up the area for a base, the spread netherrack is normal netherrack and can be mined and reused. There is no special tool required.
  • The spread makes these portals easier to spot from a distance, so use them as landmarks when exploring. A patch of netherrack in an otherwise different biome is a strong hint that a portal is nearby.
  • If you are building near one, decide early whether you want to keep the spread as decoration or clear it. Removing it later is more work once you have placed your own builds on top.

As with all generated features here, the spread only appears in newly generated chunks.
