How to Find Underground Ruined Portals in the Nether

Why You Keep Missing Them

The mod adds underground variants of ruined portals, which means the usual strategy of scanning the surface for a broken frame will not find all of them. These generate buried inside netherrack and other Nether terrain, so they are invisible until you dig into them.

Digging Strategy

1. Pick a Y level and strip-mine in a grid pattern, the same way you would hunt for ancient debris. Space your tunnels a few blocks apart so you do not skip over a buried frame.

2. Watch for obsidian and crying obsidian. Those two blocks are the clearest signal that you have hit a portal rather than ordinary terrain.

3. When you break into a pocket, light it up immediately. Underground Nether spaces can be dark, and you do not want to fight mobs while standing in a portal chamber.

4. Bring a spare flint and steel or fire charge. If the frame is intact enough, you can reactivate it on the spot and use it as a shortcut back to the Overworld.

Because these are generated structures, they only appear in chunks created after the mod was added, so mine in territory you have never loaded before.
