How to Find and Identify Hopo Better Mineshaft Rooms

Hopo Better Mineshaft replaces the plain corridors and scattered supports of a vanilla mineshaft with a set of themed rooms, so the first skill to build is recognising what you have walked into. Rooms are stitched into the normal mineshaft layout, meaning you will still travel through ordinary tunnels between them.

Spotting the transition

Watch for a sudden change in building material, ceiling height, or lighting. Vanilla mineshafts use uniform oak planks and fencing; a themed room usually swaps in a distinct palette, adds decoration, or opens into a larger chamber. When the corridor widens or the floor stops being a single flat strip, you have likely entered a room.

Reading the room before you loot it

Pause at the entrance and look at three things: the light level, whether the floor is broken or has holes, and whether you can hear mobs. Some room types are ore-focused and safe to strip, while others are built around spawners or hostile mobs. If you see a spawner, treat the room as a fight, not a harvest.

Mapping as you go

Place torches on the right-hand wall only as you descend. This gives you a consistent trail back to the entrance and stops you re-clearing rooms you have already looted. If a room has multiple exits, light each one before choosing a direction so nothing spawns behind you.
