How to Keep Your Villagers and Passive Mobs Calm During Fights

Why Nearby Mobs React to Combat

When you attack a mob, the mod checks for other mobs of the same or similar type nearby and triggers a flee response. This can cause chaos in a village or a mixed pen during a raid or culling session. Understanding the trigger helps you avoid accidental stampedes.

Reducing Collateral Panic

  • Fight hostile mobs away from your passive animals. If a zombie wanders into your cow pen and you hit it, the cows may still panic because combat happened nearby.
  • Use ranged attacks from a distance so the panic radius does not reach your livestock.
  • Wall off your animal pens from your combat areas with solid blocks; the mod checks proximity, so distance is your friend.
  • If the config allows, exclude villagers or specific passive mobs from the panic list so they stay put during raids.
  • When you must butcher inside a pen, do it in a corner and immediately block the escape route.

If animals do scatter, do not chase them one by one.
