How to Turn Dirt Into Grass Blocks With Seeds
Getting Started
Turning plain dirt into grass is the core use of this mod, and it works on a simple right-click. Before you begin, make sure you have a stack of regular seeds (the kind you get from breaking tall grass) somewhere in your hotbar, and that the dirt block you want to convert is exposed — you need to be able to click its top face directly.
Step-by-Step
1. Select your seeds so they are the active item in your hand.
2. Aim your crosshair at the top surface of a dirt block.
3. Right-click. The dirt block should immediately swap to a grass block texture.
4. Move to the next dirt block and repeat. You can chain this across a whole field quickly by walking backward and clicking each block in turn.
Tips and Gotchas
- Seeds are consumed per use, so bring more than you think you need for large areas.
- If nothing happens, check that you are actually targeting dirt and not coarse dirt, podzol, or another soil variant — those may not convert.
- Converting dirt under a roof or indoors still works, so you can build a grass floor inside a base without waiting for natural spread.
- Once a block is grass, normal grass spread mechanics can take over and fill in neighboring dirt on their own, saving you seeds.
