How to Fix Missing or Broken Characters With the Gothic Font

Occasionally a glyph will not appear, or text shows as a blank box or fallback letter. This is almost always a character-coverage issue rather than a bug in your game.

Identify the Problem Characters

The gothic font covers the standard Latin alphabet, digits, and common punctuation. Problems usually appear with accented letters, non-Latin scripts, or special symbols like currency signs and unusual punctuation. If a specific character fails, note exactly which one and where you typed it.

Work Around Missing Glyphs

For signs and books, substitute a plain equivalent: use a standard hyphen instead of an em dash, a straight quote instead of a curly one, and avoid decorative symbols entirely. For chat and commands, the same rule applies. If you need accented characters for a language, test them first in a throwaway sign before committing to a long book.

Rule Out Other Causes

If even basic letters look wrong, the pack may be lower in the resource pack list than another pack that also edits fonts. Move the gothic pack to the top and reload. Also confirm the pack is actually enabled, since a disabled pack silently reverts everything to vanilla.

Reset If Needed

If text stays broken after reordering, disable all font-related packs, reload, then enable only the gothic pack. This isolates whether the issue is the pack itself or a conflict. Once basic text renders correctly, re-add your other packs one at a time.
