How to Fix Mobs That Aren't Animating With Fresh Animations

First Checks

If some or all mobs move stiffly, the pack is either not applied or being overridden. Go to Options, Resource Packs, and confirm Fresh Animations appears in the Selected list on the right. Then check what sits above it.

Common Causes

  • Another pack overrides models. Any pack that changes entity models will beat Fresh Animations. Move Fresh Animations above texture-only packs but below model packs, or remove the conflicting pack.
  • Entity Features or modded mobs. Modded creatures usually have no Fresh Animations support, so they stay vanilla. This is expected, not a bug.
  • OptiFine or entity model settings. Some performance options that simplify entity rendering can suppress custom animations. Try toggling those off.
  • Resource pack caching. Sometimes the game keeps old files. Press F3+T to reload resources, or restart the game entirely.

Testing One Mob at a Time

Pick a single mob, like a cow, and watch it walk and graze. If it animates but a zombie does not, a pack is overriding just the zombie model. Disable packs one by one until the zombie animates, then decide which pack you value more or find a merged version.

When Nothing Works

Make sure the pack file is not corrupted and matches your game version's pack format. An outdated pack format will silently fail to load.
