How to Identify Roosters, Hens, and Chicks with Fresh Animations Details
Why Your Chickens Suddenly Look Different
After installing the Details pack, adult chickens are no longer identical. The pack splits them into rooster and hen variants, each with its own comb shape, tail feathers, and body proportions. Chicks get their own smaller, rounder model so they clearly read as babies rather than shrunken adults. This is a texture and model change only — vanilla chicken mechanics are untouched.
Telling Them Apart at a Glance
- Roosters have a taller, more prominent comb and longer, curved tail feathers.
- Hens have a smaller comb and a shorter, rounder tail.
- Chicks are visibly smaller with softer, less defined features and no full comb yet.
Working With the Variants
Because the variant is assigned per-entity, you cannot manually switch a hen into a rooster. If you want a specific ratio in your coop, cull or relocate birds until the mix looks right, or breed and let chicks grow up to see which variant they become. For farms that rely on egg output, remember hens and roosters lay and behave identically, so the split is cosmetic. If a chicken looks like a plain vanilla bird, another resource pack is likely loading above Details and overriding the chicken texture — reorder your packs so Details sits directly above the main Fresh Animations pack.
