Prevent Your Food from Rotting
Understanding Food Decay
Food blocks placed in the world will rot over time. This is part of the survival mechanics—you need to actively manage your food supply to keep meals fresh and edible.
Building a Cellar
1. Construct a cellar underground or in a cool location
2. Place your cooked meals and food blocks inside the cellar
3. The cellar environment significantly slows down food decay
4. Store perishable items like roasted meats, stuffed vegetables, and prepared dishes here
Additional Storage Tips
For crops and raw ingredients, use wooden crates. Hold a crop like carrots, potatoes, cabbages, onions, or tomatoes, then Shift+right-click on the ground to place a food crate. Crates help organize your harvest and provide some protection against spoilage.
Cellars are your best defense against food waste—prioritize building one early in your playthrough if you plan to cook regularly.
