Fixing a Crash Caused by a Missing or Mismatched Kotlin Library
The most common reason players interact with Fabric Language Kotlin at all is a crash. Kotlin-based mods compile down to classes that only exist if the Kotlin runtime is present, so a missing or wrong-version library produces a hard failure before the game even reaches the main menu.
Read the Crash Log Correctly
Look at the top of the crash report, not the bottom. You are searching for one of two patterns: a NoClassDefFoundError naming a kotlin package, or a Fabric loader message stating a mod requires fabric-language-kotlin. The first means the library is absent. The second means it is present but the version does not satisfy the dependent mod.
Resolve the Missing Case
If the library is absent, add the Fabric Language Kotlin jar to your mods folder next to the mod that needs it. Restart. Both files must stay together permanently.
Resolve the Mismatch Case
If the library is present but rejected, you have two mods built for different Minecraft versions. Check that the dependent mod and the Kotlin library both target the same Minecraft version and the same mod loader. Mixing versions is the single most frequent cause of this error. Remove the older copy so only one Kotlin library jar sits in the folder — duplicate library jars also cause startup failures.
