How to Fix a Crash Caused by a Missing Fabric API Dependency
Reading the Crash Log
When a Fabric mod needs Fabric API and cannot find it, the game usually crashes during the loading phase. Open the crash report or the latest log file in your logs folder. Look for lines mentioning fabric-api, fabricloader, or a mod ID followed by a message about a missing or unsatisfied dependency. The log will typically name the mod that requires Fabric API and the specific module it expected. This tells you whether the whole library is missing or just one of its modules.
Resolving the Dependency
If Fabric API is entirely absent from your mods folder, add the correct jar for your Minecraft version. If it is present but the crash still mentions a missing module, your Fabric API build may be older than what the dependent mod expects. Replace it with a newer build for the same Minecraft version. After swapping files, delete any leftover duplicate jars. Relaunch and watch the loading screen; if it passes the mod initialization stage, the dependency is satisfied.
Checking for Conflicting Mods
Sometimes the crash is not really about Fabric API but about two mods fighting over the same hook. Disable your other mods one at a time, keeping Fabric API enabled, to isolate the culprit. Once you find the conflicting mod, check whether a newer build of it exists that targets your current Minecraft version.
