Upgrade Your Shield for Better Damage Reduction

How Shield Tiers Work

Upgraded shields in Expanded Weaponry block a percentage of incoming damage based on their material tier. Higher-tier shields (iron, diamond) reduce more damage than lower-tier ones (wood, stone). All shields recover faster when hit by axes, rewarding strategic blocking.

Choosing Your Shield Material

Wood and Stone shields are cheap to craft but block less damage—suitable for early-game exploration and low-threat situations.

Iron shields provide solid protection and are worth crafting once you have iron access. They're durable enough for mid-game combat.

Diamond shields offer maximum damage reduction and durability. Craft these once you've established diamond mining and plan to tackle dangerous areas like the Nether or deep caves.

Pairing Shields with Weapons

Shields work best with one-handed weapons or greatswords. Combine a shield with daggers for hit-and-run tactics, or pair it with a greatsword for balanced offense and defense. Heavy armor complements shields perfectly for a defensive playstyle.

Maintenance

Shields take durability damage when blocking. Repair them at an anvil using the same material they're crafted from to keep them combat-ready.
