How to Automate Crop Replanting with Fertile Soil

Setting Up the Farm

Fertile Soil is the core farming block in Essentials Mod. Place a row of Fertile Soil blocks where you want your farm. Unlike vanilla farmland, Fertile Soil does not need water nearby and crops on it grow as if hydrated. Plant your seeds directly on top — wheat, carrots, potatoes, or beetroot all work.

Using the Replanting Behavior

When a crop on Fertile Soil is harvested and the block below is left empty, the soil will automatically replant the same seed at random intervals, provided you have supplied the seed. The practical loop is:

1. Plant your chosen seed on each Fertile Soil block.

2. Let the crop mature.

3. Harvest with a tool or by hand — the drops go to you.

4. Keep a stack of the matching seed in your inventory or in an adjacent chest feeding a hopper into the soil area.

Because Fertile Soil cannot be trampled, you can walk across it freely while collecting drops. Pair it with a hopper line underneath or beside the farm to collect overflow, and use a piston-based or water-based harvester to knock mature crops loose automatically. The soil handles the replanting step for you, so your only job is collecting output and topping up seeds.
