How to Stop Distant Friends from Spooking You During Normal Play
Reducing Encounter Frequency
If the constant watching is ruining your build or mining sessions, the practical fix is environmental rather than combat. The mob spawns in the distance and needs open sightlines to be noticeable, so dense builds, walls, and lighting changes reduce how often you actually see one.
Practical Steps
- Build enclosed or walled bases. If you cannot see the horizon from inside your base, you will not catch a figure standing at the treeline.
- Light up your surroundings. Well-lit areas make distant silhouettes easier to identify as the mob rather than something else, which removes the ambiguity that causes the creep factor.
- Play with the volume up but the brightness down. Recognising the mob quickly turns a scare into a known event.
- Check your mod config. Most creepypasta-style mods expose spawn frequency or toggle options in a config file. Look for entries relating to spawn rate or mob enablement before assuming there is no off switch.
Reframing the Experience
Once you know the rules, the mob stops being threatening. It cannot hurt you, cannot follow you, and cannot be caught. Treat it as ambience rather than a threat, and the encounters become far less unsettling.
