Where to Spend Skill Points in the Combat Tree

Once you have points banked, deciding where they go determines how strong your character feels. The combat tree rewards committing to a theme rather than spreading thin.

Reading the Tree Layout

Open the skills interface and inspect each node. Nodes near the top are usually cheap and general, while lower nodes cost more and give larger or more specialized bonuses. Some nodes require a parent node to be filled first, so trace the path you want before spending.

Common Build Directions

Damage-focused players push nodes that raise melee or general attack power so kills come faster. Survivability-focused players take health, armor, or regeneration nodes so they can stay in fights longer. A balanced approach takes one damage node and one defensive node per tier. Whichever you choose, avoid dumping points into a branch whose later nodes you cannot reach yet.

Respeccing and Adjusting

If the mod or its dependency allows refunding points, use it when your build stops working. If not, plan ahead: decide whether you want burst damage, sustained damage, or tankiness before you spend. Check the tree after every level so unused points never pile up, and test your new bonuses against a familiar mob to confirm the improvement.
