How to Make a DeadChest Private or Public
Understanding the Two Modes
A private deadchest can only be opened by the player who died or by a server admin. A public deadchest can be opened by anyone, letting other players grab the contents. The mode is set in the plugin configuration, and you can decide whether all chests follow one rule or whether the behavior is tied to specific worlds or gamemodes.
Changing the Access Mode
Open the config file and locate the privacy setting. Switch it to private if you want each chest locked to its owner, or to public if you want free looting. Save and reload the plugin. From that point on, newly created death chests will respect the new setting. Existing chests may keep their original state until they expire, so do not expect a live chest to flip instantly.
Admin Override
Admins can always open a private deadchest regardless of the setting. This is useful for resolving disputes, recovering items for a player who cannot reach their chest, or clearing stuck chests. If a player reports a chest they cannot open, confirm they are the owner shown on the hologram before intervening, since the holographic text displays the owner name.
Choosing the Right Mode
Private suits survival servers where theft is a concern. Public suits anarchy or cooperative servers where loot sharing is expected.
