How to Tell If Cucumber Is Working (and Why It Has No Items)

Cucumber is a library mod, which means it exists to be used by other mods rather than by you directly. If you installed it expecting new blocks, crops, or tools, you will not find any — and that is normal, not a bug. Your job as a player is simply to confirm it loaded correctly so the mods that depend on it can function.

Checking That It Loaded

Open your mod list from the main menu and search for Cucumber. It should appear there with no error marker next to it. If a dependent mod is crashing on startup and complaining about a missing or incompatible library, that is your signal that Cucumber either is not present or does not match what that mod expects.

What It Actually Does for You

Cucumber bundles shared code that many mods reuse: things like config handling, tag helpers, and common utility classes. Because of this, you will often see it listed as a dependency on a mod's download page. When you install a mod that requires it, install Cucumber alongside it in the same mods folder, and keep both updated together. If you remove Cucumber while a mod that needs it is still installed, that mod will fail to start.

Practical Tips

  • Do not delete Cucumber just because it "adds nothing." It is load-bearing for other mods.
  • When updating a dependent mod, check whether it now needs a newer Cucumber.
  • If you use a modpack, leave Cucumber alone unless the pack author tells you otherwise.
