How to Mix Obsidian and Crying Obsidian in One Portal Frame

Why Mix Them

The mod lets you combine regular obsidian and crying obsidian in the same frame, which is useful when you are short on one material or want a decorative pattern. You might have a stack of obsidian from a mining trip but only a few crying obsidian blocks, or you might want a frame that transitions from one material to the other.

Step-by-Step Construction

1. Decide on a pattern. You can alternate blocks, use crying obsidian only on the top and bottom rows, or place it at the corners for an accent.

2. Build the frame as usual, placing blocks in the rectangular shape. The mod checks for a valid portal shape regardless of which obsidian variant each block is.

3. Make sure the interior opening is still two blocks wide and three blocks tall. Do not place any blocks inside the opening.

4. Light the portal with flint and steel or a fire charge. It should activate immediately.

Tips and Troubleshooting

If the portal does not light, check that every block in the frame is either obsidian or crying obsidian. A single misplaced block of another material will break the frame. Also confirm the interior dimensions; a frame that is too small or too large will not activate. Mixed frames are purely cosmetic, so the portal will function normally once lit.
