Configure Pipes for MIDI Playback

What Pitch Match Mode Does

Pitch Match Mode reads the exact frequency of each pipe and automatically sets the redstone link to match it. This is essential for MIDI playback, where precise pitch matching ensures your music plays correctly.

Setting Up MIDI Pipes

1. Build or arrange your Sound of Steam pipes

2. Hold the tuning wrench and press Alt + scroll wheel to select a Pitch Match mode (Pitch Match Face Towards, Pitch Match Face Away, or Pitch Match Bottom)

3. Right-click each pipe with the wrench

4. The tool reads the pipe's frequency and configures the redstone link to that exact pitch

5. Verify you have sufficient redstone links in your inventory

6. Connect your MIDI input system to the redstone links

7. Test your MIDI file—each note should trigger the correct pipe

Choosing Your Pitch Match Variant

All three Pitch Match modes function identically for frequency matching. The difference is placement direction:

  • Bottom: Link sits directly below the pipe
  • Face Towards/Away: Link faces a specific direction for side-mounted relay systems

Select based on your relay system's layout, not on tuning behavior.
