Build and Use Glide Rails for Fast Travel
Placing Glide Rails
Glide rails are overhead tracks that let you travel quickly between distant parts of your base. Place them in a line or curve to create a path. Rails can be oriented horizontally or at angles to connect different elevations.
Activating a Rail
To use a glide rail, hold a wrench and right-click on the rail block. Your character will mount the rail and slide along it at high speed. You cannot steer mid-glide, so plan your rail routes carefully to avoid obstacles.
Designing Routes
Curved rail sections allow smooth transitions around corners without abrupt direction changes. Plan routes that connect your main factory areas, storage rooms, and crafting stations. Avoid placing rails over hazards or in areas where you might collide with blocks.
Combining with Tubes
Glide rails work independently of pneumatic tubes but complement them well. Use rails for player travel while tubes handle item transport, creating an efficient factory layout where both systems coexist without interference.
