How to Organize a Storage Room with Crates and Bags
Plan by Category
Before placing anything, sort your storage into two tiers. Bulk farm output — apples, carrots, potatoes, eggs, berries, fish, mushrooms, golden apples — belongs in crates. Smaller or specialty items — cocoa beans, sugar, gunpowder — belong in bags. Group crates by crop type along one wall and bags along a counter or shelf.
Build the Layout
Place crates in a grid two or three blocks high against a wall, leaving a walkway in front. Because crates are dimensionally compact, a single wall can hold dozens without dominating the room. Put bags on top of a row of barrels or on a shelf so they read as a separate zone.
Label each container by placing a matching item frame with the stored item above it, or use signs. Feed automated farms directly into crates with hoppers so you never manually restock. Keep a spare empty crate and bag in a chest near the door for quick swaps when you expand. When you outgrow a zone, break the crates and bags and re-place them — contents travel with them, so reorganizing takes seconds instead of emptying every container by hand.
