What to Do When Minecraft Crashes During Startup with Crash Patch
Why Startup Crashes Are Different
Crash Patch works by wrapping the running game so it can catch errors mid-session. If the game crashes while it's still loading or initializing, there's no session to recover — so the mod can't pull you back to a menu. What it can still do is give you access to the crash log and possible solutions.
Steps to Diagnose a Startup Crash
1. Read the startup crash screen and note any mod it names.
2. Open or upload the crash log from that screen. Startup logs list every mod being loaded, so the failure point is usually near the end.
3. Identify the last mod mentioned before the error, or the mod named directly in the exception.
4. Remove or disable that mod, then relaunch. If the game starts, you've found the cause.
5. If it still crashes, repeat with the next suspect named in the log.
Common Startup Causes
Missing or mismatched dependencies, a mod built for a different game version, and two mods overwriting the same thing are the usual culprits. Add mods back one at a time after a successful launch so you can pinpoint which one breaks startup. Keep the uploaded log link handy if you need to ask for help.
