Set Up a Basic Item Filter in a Copper Hopper

Placing Your First Filter

Copper Hoppers work by placing items directly into their slots to define what they accept. Start by placing a Copper Hopper above a container (chest, barrel, or another hopper).

Adding Filter Items

1. Open the Copper Hopper's inventory

2. Place one item of each type you want to filter into separate slots

3. For example, place one diamond, one iron ingot, and one gold ingot if you want to sort those three materials

4. Leave at least one slot empty—the hopper needs space to function

How It Works

Once filtered, the hopper will only pull matching items from containers above it and only push matching items into containers below. Items that don't match your filters will be ignored completely, making this ideal for sorting systems.

Remember: the hopper keeps at least one of each filtered item inside at all times to maintain the filter. This means your filter items won't be pushed downstream—they stay put.
