How to Explore and Map a Full Continent

Prepare for a Long Expedition

A continent in this mod is a large, continuous landmass — much bigger than a vanilla landmass of similar biome count. Exploring one fully takes real time. Before you start, set up a base camp near where you landed so you have a fallback point.

Exploration Method

1. Pick a direction and walk or sail along the coastline first. This gives you the continent's outline and helps you judge its size.

2. Use a map (vanilla maps work, but a minimap or atlas mod helps enormously) and fill in tiles as you go. Place banners or torches at key landmarks so you can navigate back.

3. Note biome transitions as you cross the continent — different biomes often mean different resources and structures.

4. Mark coordinates of anything valuable: villages, temples, cave entrances, and resource-rich areas.

5. When you reach the far coast, you have confirmed the continent's extent. Record the approximate bounding coordinates.

Crossing Inland

Cutting straight across the interior is faster than following the coast, but you may hit mountains, rivers, or dense forest. Bring a bed so you can sleep through nights and avoid mobs, and carry enough blocks to bridge ravines or climb cliffs. If you get lost, head toward the nearest coast and follow it — coastlines always lead somewhere.
