How to Earn Player XP from Pokémon Battles
Winning Battles for XP
Cobblemon: PlayerXP hooks into the battle system so that when you defeat a Pokémon in a battle, your *player* gains experience — not just your Pokémon. This is the core loop of the mod, and it works automatically once installed.
To trigger it:
1. Start a battle with a wild Pokémon or another trainer's Pokémon using your normal Cobblemon battle flow.
2. Win the battle (knock out the opposing Pokémon or the opposing team).
3. Watch your player XP bar — you should see it fill or your level increase depending on how much XP the battle awarded.
The amount of XP you receive scales with the difficulty and level of the Pokémon you defeat. A low-level wild Pokémon gives a small amount, while a high-level trainer battle gives more. You do not need to do anything special to claim the XP; it is granted at the moment the battle ends in your victory.
What Counts as a Win
Only victories grant XP. Fleeing, losing, or having the battle end without a clear winner will not give you player XP. If you are testing the mod, fight something you can reliably beat so you can confirm the XP bar moves. Once you have confirmed it works, you can use this as your main leveling method in worlds where hostile mobs never spawn.
