Why CleanCut Only Works on Some Blocks and Entities
The rule behind every hit
CleanCut does not let you attack through everything. It only ignores blocks that have no collision or zero hardness, and it only connects with entities that are living and collide-able. Knowing this rule tells you exactly when the mod will and will not help.
Blocks that are ignored
Non-solid vegetation such as tall grass, ferns, flowers, and saplings has no collision, so your attack passes through it. Blocks with zero hardness are also ignored. Anything with collision, like stone, dirt, planks, or fences, still stops your swing.
Entities that qualify
Living, collide-able mobs are valid targets. This covers hostile mobs and passive animals. Non-living entities, such as item frames, armor stands, and dropped items, do not follow the same path and are not the intended targets.
Applying the rule in play
- If a plant is in the way, expect the hit to land.
- If a solid block is in the way, expect it to block you.
- If the target is not a living mob, expect different behavior.
Use this mental checklist before swinging. It explains most cases where players think the mod is broken when it is actually working as designed.
