How to Hide JEI or REI Overlays Until You Need Them

Why Hide the Overlay

JEI and REI draw item lists and recipe panels over your screen constantly, which clutters the view and costs a little performance. Chloride can hide these overlays by default so they only appear when you actually want them, keeping your HUD clean during normal play.

Enabling Overlay Control

Open the Chloride config and find the overlay or JEI/REI section. Enable the option that hides the overlay until needed. Depending on your setup, the overlay may reappear when you open your inventory or when you press the mod's toggle key. Check your keybind settings to find or assign the toggle so you can summon the recipe panel on demand.

Using It in Practice

With the overlay hidden, open your inventory only when crafting or searching for a recipe. If the panel does not show, press the toggle key or check that the JEI/REI integration is enabled in Chloride. If you prefer the overlay always visible in inventories but hidden in-world, look for a separate setting for that behavior. Save the config afterward. This pairs well with the FPS overlay so you can confirm the performance gain from hiding the overlay.
