How to Configure True Darkness Levels in Chloride
Finding the Darkness Setting
Chloride includes a True Darkness feature that makes unlit areas genuinely dark instead of the washed-out vanilla gloom. Open the Chloride config and locate the darkness or lighting section. You will see a control for darkness depth or intensity rather than a simple on/off switch, letting you pick how pitch-black caves and night become.
Choosing a Level
Start at a mild level if you still want to see terrain shapes, or push it higher for a horror-style experience where you truly need torches. Lower levels keep some ambient visibility so you can navigate without spamming light sources. Test each level at night on the surface and deep underground, since the effect reads very differently in each place. If the world becomes unplayable, step the level back down rather than disabling the feature.
Interaction With Other Settings
True Darkness stacks with fog customization, so heavy fog plus deep darkness can make caves nearly impossible to traverse. If you use the zoom key to scout, remember zoom does not brighten the scene. Keep a stack of torches or a light source on your hotbar when running high darkness levels. Save the config when you are happy and reload to confirm the change persists across restarts.
