How to Read the Book Display Under Your Crosshair

What the Overlay Shows

When you look directly at a Chiseled Bookshelf, the mod renders a small display near your crosshair. This display represents the shelf's slots and tells you what is stored in each one. Instead of breaking the shelf or opening it to check, you simply aim at it and read the overlay. The display updates live as you move your view from shelf to shelf, so you can sweep across a wall of shelves and read each one in turn.

Reading the Slot Information

Each slot in the display corresponds to a position on the shelf. The mod separates the contents into categories so you can tell them apart at a glance:

  • Normal books appear as plain book entries.
  • Enchanted books are shown distinctly so you can spot them without hovering each slot.
  • Feathered books (books combined with a feather) get their own visual treatment.

Because the categories are sorted automatically, you do not need to memorize which physical slot holds which type. Aim at the shelf, read the grouped display, and you immediately know whether the enchanted book you need is present.

Practical Tips

Stand close enough that the shelf is the block you are targeting, and keep your crosshair centered on it. If the display does not appear, check that you are actually pointing at a Chiseled Bookshelf and not an adjacent block. Use this when sorting loot or restocking a library so you avoid opening shelves unnecessarily.
