How to Craft a Charcoal Block
Gathering Charcoal
First, you'll need charcoal. The most common way to obtain it is by smelting wood or wood-related blocks in a furnace. Unlike coal ore, charcoal doesn't require mining—any wooden material works. Smelt logs, planks, or other wood blocks to get individual charcoal pieces.
Crafting the Block
Once you have at least nine pieces of charcoal, open your crafting table. Arrange nine charcoal pieces in a 3×3 grid to create one
charcoal block. This works exactly like crafting a block of coal or a block of iron—fill every slot in the crafting grid.
Storage Benefits
A single charcoal block takes up one inventory slot but stores the equivalent of nine charcoal pieces. This is especially useful if you've gathered large amounts of charcoal from tree farming or extensive wood smelting. Stack multiple charcoal blocks in your chests to keep your storage organized and efficient.
Reversing the Craft
If you need individual charcoal pieces again, you can place a charcoal block in a crafting grid by itself to break it back down into nine charcoal pieces.
