Create X-Marks to Highlight Important Locations

Drawing X-Marks

X-marks are useful for flagging ore deposits, dangerous areas, or points of interest. To create an X-mark, hold Sneak (default Shift) and right-click on the center of a block face. The X will appear across the entire surface.

Placement Tips

X-marks work best on flat, full block surfaces. You can mark stone, dirt, wood, or any solid block. Unlike arrows, X-marks don't have directional variation—they always appear the same regardless of where you click the center.

Making X-Marks Glow

For visibility in dark caves, use Glow Chalk to draw X-marks, or apply Glowstone Dust or Glowing Ink Sac to existing marks. Right-click the mark with either item to make it glow.

Organizing Your Marks

Combine X-marks with colored chalk to create a system: red X for danger, yellow X for ore, blue X for water sources. With 16 chalk colors available, you can develop a personal marking language for your mining operation.
