This mod pushes the interesting cave content deeper, so surface entrances are only the beginning. The real cave systems open up far below, and going in unprepared is how you lose a full inventory.
Gear and Supplies
Before entering any cave, carry a full stack of torches, a stack of building blocks for bridging and pillaring, food, a water bucket, and a spare pickaxe. Bring a bed only if you can safely place it; otherwise carry a respawn anchor if you use one. Armor with decent protection matters more than usual because deep caves are large and open, meaning mobs can approach from many directions at once.
Navigating the Descent
Surface entrances are deliberately narrow, so expect to squeeze through tight vertical shafts before the cave opens out. Light every junction as you go and place markers at forks so you can backtrack. In the large deep caverns, avoid walking along unlit ledges — drop-offs are common and easy to miss. Bridge across gaps rather than jumping them. If you find a rift valley intersecting your cave, note it: that intersection is a fast route back to the surface and worth remembering.
When to Turn Back
Set a rule for yourself, such as leaving when your torches or food run low. Running out of light deep underground is far more dangerous here than on the surface.
