How to Find and Use Rift Valleys for Fast Vertical Travel
Rift valleys are the signature terrain feature of this mod, and they are your best shortcut between the surface and the deep underground. Because they cut all the way down to the bottom of the world, a single rift can save you from digging a full-length staircase.
Locating a Rift
Rifts are rare, so do not expect one behind every hill. Explore with a wide view: climb a tall hill, pillar up a few blocks, or use a spyglass to scan the horizon for a long, narrow trench splitting the landscape. From the surface they read as deep, straight gashes rather than the round mouths of normal caves. Once you spot a suspicious line in the terrain, walk its length before committing — rift valleys run long, and the best entry point is usually where the walls are steepest.
Descending Safely
Do not jump in. The drop is lethal. Instead, enter at a gentle slope or build a controlled descent: place water at the lip and ride it down, or pillar down the wall block by block. Bring torches, a bed or respawn anchor, and enough blocks to climb back out, since rift walls are sheer. Mark the entrance with a distinctive block so you can find it again. Treat each rift as one-way infrastructure: note its coordinates, and use it as a permanent highway between your surface base and deep mining levels.
