How to Safely Burn Down a Forest Without Losing Control
Plan Your
Fire Zone
Before igniting anything, identify your target area and create a firebreak—a cleared strip of non-flammable blocks like dirt, stone, or water channels. Check the current wind direction by placing flags around your burn zone. Wind will push
flames in predictable directions, so position your firebreak downwind of where you want the fire to stop.
Start Small and Monitor
Use flint and steel on a single block at the edge of your planned burn area, or light a
fire barrel nearby. Watch how the flames spread relative to the wind and biome conditions. Hot, dry biomes will produce much larger and faster-spreading fires than cold or wet areas.
Control the Spread
Stay nearby with a
fire extinguisher or wind charges ready. If the fire spreads beyond your firebreak, use wind charges to blow flames away from protected areas, or deploy the fire extinguisher to snuff out advancing edges. Rain will naturally slow fire spread, so timing your burn before a storm passes can provide extra safety. Keep Iron Golems away from your burn zone—they'll interfere by extinguishing fires in the area.
