How to Predict and Prepare for Wind-Driven Fire Spread
Read the Wind Direction
Place flags around your world to visually determine which way wind is blowing. Wind pushes
flames in specific directions and makes them burn stronger in that path. Check flag positions regularly, as wind direction can change. This is essential for predicting how
fire will spread through forests or near your builds.
Prepare Firebreaks Strategically
Once you know the wind direction, create firebreaks (cleared strips of non-flammable blocks) perpendicular to the wind flow. Position them downwind of areas you want to protect. The wider your firebreak, the more reliable your protection.
Account for Biome Effects
Remember that hot, dry biomes produce larger, faster fires than cold or wet areas. A fire in a desert will spread much more aggressively than one in a swamp or taiga. Plan accordingly—use wider firebreaks in hot biomes and position your structures farther from potential ignition sources. Watch for smoke plumes, falling ash, and glowing embers in the air to gauge fire intensity from a distance.
