How to Keep Mining a Block While Switching Tools in Break Free

What the mod actually changes

Break Free is a one-mixin mod, which means it makes a single, targeted change to vanilla behavior: when you swap the item in your hand, the block you were already breaking does not reset. In vanilla, releasing the attack button or changing your held item cancels the break progress and the crack overlay disappears. With Break Free installed, that progress is preserved across the swap.

Doing it in practice

1. Find a block you want to mine, such as stone or wood.

2. Hold down your attack button and let the breaking animation start. You will see the crack overlay appear on the block.

3. Without letting go of attack, scroll your hotbar or press a number key to switch to a different item.

4. Keep holding attack. The block should continue breaking with the new item in hand instead of resetting.

This is most useful when you start a block with one tool and finish it with another, or when you accidentally scroll past the tool you meant to use. Because the mod only touches the item-switch reset, everything else about mining speed, tool tiers, and drops still follows normal rules — a block still needs the correct tool tier to drop its item, and switching to a non-tool will not speed anything up.
